Okay, so it’s time for me to weigh in on the whole Detroit fans vs. Indiana Pacers brawl that took place last friday night.
Well David Stern, the commissioner of the NBA, has handed down some of the harshest penalties in the history of basketball and in my opinion, rightly so! He suspended Ron Artest for the remainder of the season, Stephen Jackson 30 games, Jermaine O’Neil for 25 and 6 others for between 1 and 6 games. Of course, the players union and Artest, Jackson and O’Neil feel that these suspensions are too harsh and have appealed. The players union even goes so far to say that Commissioner Stern has “gone too far” and has “abused his authority” in regards to these suspensions.
One, how can the commissioner, whose job it is to handle on-court discipline, abuse his authority? This I don’t quite understand! All day yesterday and today I read articles and hear interviews about passing the buck and shifting blame from the players to the fans or from the fans to the players. No one is stepping up to accept fault. I guess that’s what we’ve gotten to in our society and this is a grim reflection of that! Artest has cried over and over that “it’s not my fault I went berzerk, he was hit with a cup!” Oh we’re so sorry Ron that you were hit with a cup. As a result of this he tore into the crowd and pounded a guy for it…unfortunately IT WAS THE WRONG GUY!
So, Ron and company are complaining about the terrible punishment that is being handed down. When I first saw this fight I thought Artest–who has a history of suspensions–should be suspended for the entire season, but I never thought it would happen! Way to go Commissioner Stern!
Now that the players union and all the players are positioning themselves in this upcoming battle about the suspensions who else should weigh in his opinion to the commissioner? None other than Jesse Jackson. That’s right, Jesse Jackson! What the freak does he have to do with this whole situation? NOTHING! So, butt out!
“I think David Stern is trying his best to preserve the integrity of the game and his industry, but due process must be honored, and all the mitigating factors must be included on a final decision,” said Jesse Jackson, who said he spoke with Stern by telephone on Monday. (ESPN.com)
Butt out Jesse, you have no business here! Let Stern do his job and actually do what you said he’s trying to do…preserve the integrity of the game. Go home Jesse!
I’m sick of this whole thing. I think the players need to own up to what they did. I think the fans need to own up to what they did and everyone needs to suffer the consequences and quite whining and complianing. Take your consequences like men because you deserve them!
