could it be that the extreme backlash that the emergent church (ec) is getting (mainly from fundamentalism) is because the ec is moving the church (protestantism) more towards mysticism?

if this is a correct assumption, then why is it so bad especially since fundamentalists hold up many of the classic mystics as admirable and worthy of learning from?
