it should come as no surprise, but the academy awards are under attack for giving crash the oscar for best picture. why should this come as no surprise? but of course it’s because this country is full of spiteful, hateful, homophobic americans who would never in their life allow for real art, would never allow for the “greatest love story ever,” full of tolerance and “true love” as displayed in brokeback mountain, to win this honor!
i’m a lot disappointed by the fact that the homosexual community has come out and denounced what took place at the oscars with the best-picture category, but i’m not the least bit surprised. i very much expected this to happen… but at the same time i didn’t expect this to happen because i fully expected for brokeback mountain to win. one thing the homosexual community should realize–america doesn’t vote for best-picture… in fact, the majority of the academy is made up of fellow actors. so their outrage is misdirected… it’s overdone and totally unnecessary.
i loved the movie crash, and i was very excited to see that it won, however i must honestly admit that i haven’t seen any of the other movies in the best picture category. with that said, i do plan on seeing capote and brokeback mountain at some point and if for some reason i think that crash was undeserving of the award i’ll say something… but at this point it’d be a pretty hard movie to beat in my mind.
anyways, tracy (my wife) made a tremendous observation about brokeback mountain the other day and because of her observation i am under the impression that brokeback didn’t deserve to win. she said that, “brokeback has become the brunt of too many jokes for it to be taken seriously as a film.”
all over the internet you can find spoof videos such as ‘brokeback to the future’ or ‘the empire brokeback’ or ‘brokeback samuri’ or even ‘brokeback of the dead’. in fact, it’s not only the brunt of jokes but has become one of the biggest cultural spoofs/parodies/puns of the day… even the opening sequence of the oscars spoofed brokeback mountain (billy crystal and chris rock coming out of a tent in the mountains). my question is this: if it was such a good movie then why has it been the punch line of more jokes than any movie since gigli (which i believe won a razzie for worst picture of the year 2003)? if it was such a good movie, it wouldn’t have become what it has, a joke… and it would’ve won the oscar.
