well, i haven’t blogged much about our excursion to milwaukee last weekend, but i must say that the milwaukee art museum was one of the most amazing things. i was surprised that it was as good as it was… a totally underrated place. anyways, this is a picture of my favorite piece of art… can i tell you why exactly… no. let me explain a little bit about it. basically, it’s a doll trapped underneath a folding chair… but displayed on the face of the doll is the artist (tony ousler) answering questions for the MMPI. the answers he was giving were some of the most depressing things i’ve ever heard… but it made it no less enthralling. i had to keep going back over and over and over just to see it some more. i don’t think i’ve ever been so “taken” by art before. again, i’m not really sure what it was about the piece, but it really, really had my attention.
while we were there, we also had the opportunity to go through the travelling exhibit “Masters of American Comics”. I’m not much of a comic book fan, but this was really cool. it was neat to see proofs for the comic strips that were in the newspapers such as Peanuts and Dick Tracy, we got to see original works of Captain America and the Silver Surfer, not to mention the Fantastic Four and countless others. It was pretty snazzy. Tracy kept remarking about how much “adult” content there was in the comic strips that ran in the Newspapers Comic section.
Anyways, it was pretty neat and I’d recommend anyone that’s near the milwuakee art museum to go check it out.
