  • Jacob Paul Breeze says:

As soon as I saw it this morning on TV, I shot them an email. I wonder if they read them all. I’d love to hear Robin, Chuck and Linda read it.

  • Eric says:

Man, what’s going on? “waves” means this particular tsunami from last year? These guys might be able to preach, but they don’t seem to be taking scholarship very seriously. Any preterists here? Nero 666-616? I’m feeling all alone right now.

  • Lon says:

I think it’s interesting how imaginative some of us can be with some parts of the Scripture and not be able to read between the lines with all the others.

  • Abigail says:

Well, you’re right. It was interesting. I can’t deny that natural disasters have been occuring. But haven’t they always happened? I think the Scriptures will be fulfilled as its written in the Bible. But there is NO way to guess when the fulfillment of the scriptures will occur. I think we’re supposed to live like we don’t know what will happen. Like it MAY happen tomorrow. And if the world were to end tomorrow, what would you say to your friends, family, and co-workers? Would you be afraid to give your testamony? Pretty unlikley. That’s what I think. Until reading this I hadn’t given the “end times” much thought in a while. So, thanks for the reminder. Its so easy to be consumed in my day to day crap. What’s your opinion, Aaron? I’m curious to know.

my opinion?…. geesh abby that’s a dangerous question! i think you’re trying to get me into some hot water! let’s see how short i can make this and it still make sense, cause that’s a loaded question with lots and lots of need for explanation….

the book of revelation is apocalytpic literature written by a politically oppressed person to a politically oppressed people group (john and the christians were being oppressed and persecuted by the roman emperors/government). as a result he (john) couldn’t just come out and bash the officials of the day, so he used poetic imagery to convey his message to his audience (christians). in doing so he employed a very popular literary genre of his day known as jewish apocalytpic literature. (this was popular from about 100BC to 100AD give or take). so, this imagery was used to explain the current situation that the christians of the day faced under the rule of the emperor nero. i’m under the impression that this is what john was writting about, not about future events concerning the end of the world (he wrote a really comprehensive letter for Christians to know and understand how to deal with pain and suffering–we just haven’t taken it that way in recent years). i think he was writting a letter of comfort and encouragement to a suffering and oppressed people to let them know that the situations that they were facing were only temporary and that compared to eternity this will only be a brief snippet in time.

now for those of you that think i’m a preterist–you’re partially right i suppose. i do believe that jesus is coming back, however i think the events that john is describing in revelation are cyclical, and they continue to occur each and every day. there’s a whole lot more need for explanation on that, but i’ll leave it there for your assumptions….
