doesn’t this just say it all?
i’ve got to say that i didn’t think the tigers had a chance (and neither did any of ESPN’s experts in their picks), but i couldn’t be more happy with the outcome! the yankees, for the second year in a row, made a first round exit from the playoffs. the team to beat is no longer around!
sorry bronx fans, it’s over for you now.
there is no reason why the yankees should have been so pitiful in the playoffs. they had the best lineup in the playoffs (probably ever) and had a decent rotation with a great bullpen… and they choked.
i’ve always thought manager joe torre is extremely overrated as a manager–it showed when he was with the cardinals–and now with the yankees with all the money and talent that has surrounded him for the past few seasons, he hasn’t done much but make the playoffs (which should be expected). the yankees would have done well to fire him long ago, but cashman (their GM) doesn’t have the chutzpah to get rid of him… funny enough, i don’t think steinbrenner does either. but that’s fine with me… i’ll continue in my excitement of watching the yankees make thier early-october exit from the playoffs.
congratulations tigers…Â beat the A’s and win the series!

“i’ve always thought manager joe torre is extremely overrated as a manager”
I’ll remember this when the Cubs hire him, because knowing Cub-dumb all too well if he was hired, it will be like the second coming of Christ for Cub fans…I remember when Crusty was hired, everyone thought that was it, they automatically would have won…. Go A’s! I’d like to see Thomas get a ring the right way.
i was not ever on the dusty bandwagon. i wanted desperately for the cubs to hire ned yost.
i will never be on the bandwagon for joe torre either. he sucked in st. louis and was only good when he had $200 million worth of talent surrounding him… but he still hasn’t been able to win with that for 6 years. overrated… and if the cubs hire him, it’ll be a huge mistake. (however, i’m not so sure torre would want to come to the cubs… i’d just assume he’d retire).
i’d much rather snatch ron gardenhire from the twins… but that won’t happen.
the cubs are going to hire girardi and that sucks. he’s got a great managerial mind.
although hiring girardi is the obvious choice–we are talking about the cubs here… and nothing is certain. they’ll probably end up hiring pinella, going for experience especially since hendry now has to worry about saving his job.
