when tracy and i went to st. louis for a couple of days last week before venturing to the “promised land” (joplin, mo) we went into the city one day and straight to the edward jones dome where we were able to watch oregon and florida practice in preparation for their sweet 16 matchups against butler and unlv.

we sat there and watched them go through their warmups, their shooting drills, and even watch them scrimmage a bit. the whole time i watched florida practice i was extremely unimpressed… especially with noah. noah.jpghe just ran through the motions, puttered around and didn’t really seem to care about what he was doing… you could also say that about the entire team. in fact, i was so unimpressed that i wish i could’ve changed my bracket having them lose to butler instead of winning. (i was however, extremely impressed with what i saw out of oregon and wanted to immediately pencil them in as the national champion!)

tonight while watching florida play, they looked like a completely different team. they hustled, ran after everything and really played well. unfortunately for me and my bracket, ohio state played like florida practiced (i picked the national championship game just like i have done 3 of the past 4 years… but each time i always pick the wrong champion). they didn’t really hustle after the loose balls, they didn’t hit their free throws and at times they looked very uninspiring as they played a passionless, conservative style of basketball—at least until about 12:00 left in the second half.

well, congratulations florida… you made history, and truly played like champions. (i guess donovan can go to kentucky now.)
