“If I’m going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I’ll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot.” ~ Ann Coulter

this is absolutely ridiculous… yet her fame and popularity with the right will only continue to grow. strangely enough if you read between the lines she is actually supporting terrorism with her wish of a terrorist assassination plot. and she’s the mouthpiece of the right?

why can’t we stop all this stupidity in our country and instead work together? where are the calls for unity from the left and the right? i think we’re too concerned with power grabs to care about unity… because there’s just too much money to be made with division. even john edwards himself is attempting to raise $5 million in order to “fight back… and beat back the vicious tide [of the right wing].”

p.s. ~ how does she not get arrested for this?

I couldn’t agree more! People like Coulter pass themselves off as as serious commentators, when, in fact, they are low brow entertainers who try to find outlandish things to say so that some people will love them and others will love to hate them… as their book sales soar.

Both sides rely on the stupidity of the populace and must create a bogyman, so they can “save” us. How stupid is that?

I have often wondered why we don’t see a coalition of the best minds (convervative, liberal, whatever) working together on some of the tough issues we face as a nation.

  • A.B. Dada says:

Actually, I think Coulter has every right to say exactly what she said — Congress shall make NO LAW abridging our God-given right to speak in public. Her bosses, though, have every right to restrict her speech on their property.

That being said, there is no division between the right and the left. Both sides are pro-force, both sides are pro-war, both sides are pro-tax (theft), both sides are anti-individual. Coulter on the right and the myriad of people on the “other side” both have the same basic things to say against the “other side,” which is part of the mess that keep any truth out of the minds of the mentally challenged public.

Look at what the Right has to offer — warhawks and taxmongers such as Giuliani and McCain and Romney. Look at what the Left has to offer — warhawks and taxmongers such as Clinton and Obama. There’s no difference, but as long as we support watching the talking heads and giving advertisers reason to support them, they’ll continue to lead their flocks to believing that there really is a difference between the right and the left.

    Go Ron Paul.

Video clips do not always tell the whole story. I am not a Coulter fan. In fact, I think she is a pompous ass who could care less about conservative issues and just wants to sell books. But, in fairness, her comment as recorded on the video must be looked at in context. I watched the entire interview on GMA. She was commenting on how no one took Bill Maher to task when he made a comment that it was a shame that Dick Cheney didn’t die during the terrorist plot to kill him in Afghanistan. She said she didn’t understand how she got ripped so badly for associating the term “faggot” with John Edwards and that perhaps she would have gotten less criticism if she had just wished he had been killed by terrorists instead. You had to see the whole interview to get that and the 15 secod clip doesn’t give that perspective. She also called President Bush a dimwit in the same interview.

that’s a really good point! i guess that’s what i get for watching a propaganda clip that’s ripped out of context.

i love how politics stoop to such a level… and how we’re all suckers for it!

  • Jason says:

I agree, she has the right to say what she wants according to the constitution. And Scott is right, as she was just responding to what far left nut job Bill Maher said about Cheney. Both sides are severe nut cases, but it doesnt stop the whackos like Michael Moore to make more crap movies that are so slanted to his opinions and views they have zero merit around the majority of the U.S.

Take both sides and ship them to Canada to live together in war I say!

  • monts says:

i agree she has the right to say what she wants… but she’s borderline calling for the guys assassination… that’s illegal.

i wouldn’t however agree that she is to the right what bill maher is to the left. bill maher actually isn’t all that far to the left. i listen to him quite frequently and watch his show all the time (it’s on hiatus for the summer) and he’s not as liberal as coulter is conservative. he’s liberal, that’s for sure, but he’s not a nut job. in fact, he’s on record as saying he would vote for ron paul if he won the nomination! bill maher has more in common with jason and dada than they realize! ;)

  • Esther says:

I agree that Ann Coulter is very extreme and I disagree with her an overwhelming majority of the time. However, the suggestion that she be arrested for what she said is also ridiculous. There’s a reason we have free speech in the U.S. She’s not calling for his assassination or even borderline doing it. She is trying to make a funny (it bombed bad) about her desire not to have to talk about him anymore.

You are taking this way too serious. If you value conversation in society than you should realize that freedom of speech and the press is important. You are, after all, bloggers. You obviously like to be able to say what you want to say.

I also applaud Scott for pointing out the context of the quotation.
