this would be a lot funnier if it wasn’t so true. for the past couple of years i have been developing relationships with a number of people from charismatic or pentecostal backgrounds and i’ve been shocked by their stories of leaders who believe in the “Moses Principle” leadership and wield almost absolute authority in their communities on account of the spurious “anointed” principle that is lampooned above.
i’ve often encouraged individuals who are suffering in authoritarian communities to flee for their lives and am constantly suspicious of people who express excessive personal ambition within a religious context.
i’m sure that there is a healthy and positive way to express one’s ambition and utilize authority within these contexts. however, such healthy expressions seem to be somewhat far from the norm.
does this guy go to my church?
