it only took me 2 weeks beyond what i wanted, but today i accomplished the goal… 3 miles! i ran at a pace of 10:15/mile, which isn’t too shabby at all. i’m pretty excited that i made it to my goal and now get to continue working towards being in a race (which i’ll get totally creamed in—guys actually run 5k’s in 15 minutes! okay, so the ones that set records do… but still.)
i did have a rather strange occurrence take place tonight while running… when i hit the 2.25 mile mark my feet started to go numb… and by the time i hit 2.5 miles they were completely numb. i started to get a little freaked out by it, but i was feeling so good and knew that i could hit the 3 mile mark that i decided to press on. when i finished up the 3 miles and started walking to cool off, my feet immediately went back to normal… no more numbness.
so i did a google search to see what the problem could be—honestly i thought i was crazy—but there were tons of message board posts and articles pertaining to this very issue! i couldn’t believe it… the solution? don’t tie your laces too tight. i guess there’s some sort of blood vessel that runs along the top of your foot and if you tie your laces too tight it begins to slowly cut the circulation to your feet. crazy, i know!
so, here’s to running… numbness in your feet… and 3 miles! by this time next week i hope to attain the mark of 3.5 miles while maintaining a respectable pace of 10 minutes/mile…

You have inspired me, I have been holding steady at 1 mile, but I am going to shoot for 1.5 today.
Oh, and what in the world was Larussa thinking?
Wow, that’s really cool; I actually just hit my goal of three miles this week, as well. I used to have the same problem of my feet going numb too. It just went away after a little while. I never actually found out what the problem was. But anyway, congrats!
If God intended us to run, he would have given us feet!
Nice job, montsy. Good to know you’ve completely flipped off the deep end.
When I used to run, I always found the best way to get my mile time down was to offer financial incentive to a friend to try to catch me. After losing $150, my mile times were down to 8 minutes!
