walking through gotham

this past weekend my brother came up for a visit and we spent friday evening in downtown chicago. we pulled into union station and walked a few blocks up the road to pick up tracy from work at the chicago board of trade where we saw streets being blocked off and gunfire rattling off left and right! luckily for us we weren’t fazed because tracy had tipped us off earlier that right across the street they were filming “Rory’s First Kiss” (codename for The Dark Knight—the next installment of the Batman series!) my brother and i stood around for a while watching the scene unfold before walking away.

Later in the evening as we were heading back to the train, filming for the day had already concluded and the streets were no longer blocked off—but there were about 8 different Gotham Police Department cars sitting along the street. So, we walked up next to them and took some pictures…

they’re supposed to be filming off and on throughout the next month… so maybe we’ll see some more scenes as we venture into the city. i’m really curious to see the movie and see if we can pick out what scene we witnessed getting filmed!

How, how cool is that!?! Just one more reason that we need to be planting churches in the cities ;-)

    I’ve heard about this.

A friend of mine is living in chicago now and said that they’ve been filming for a few months now.

    But you’ve got pictures!!!

Christian Bale is one of the only actors I will go out of my way to pay to see a movie on the big screen for. Just an amazing character actor who keeps his personal life out of the media, so his character is what you focus on.

He’s gotten HUGE to play the Dark Knight, supposedly one of the most dramatic and emotional movies of the huge series. They generally use the useless highway by me in Zion called the Amstutz (the highway to nowhere) to film movies (I know they used it for the previous Batman, and Groundhog Day and a myriad of others) and it’s always exciting to see the HUGE crews that are used to film tiny segments or secondary scenes.

I’m amazed they can film in Chicago — the union costs are extremely high, and the cost to close roads and hire the cops is even higher. Crazy.

on the news tonight they showed the explosion of the “gotham general hospital” also known in real life as the brachs candy company… that should be interesting to see in the movie as well…

there’s been a lot of movies getting filmed in chicago lately… they must’ve reduced the restrictions and requirements and fees!
