i think the smirk on Doug Pagitt’s face while John is talking is pretty funny. You can tell Doug knew exactly what John was going to say! The more I hear Johnny Mac talk, the more I dislike him.
I personally have a lot of respect for John Mac. Yeah, some of his thoughts are off, but couldnt some people say that about Doug Pag. (“Damn you matt for going against one of the fathers of emergents house churches”) I have read Macarthur and am challenged by things he says. What is sad about this, is that as soon as people see these two men put together you are going to jump to Pagitt’s side before you even watch the video (dont lie to yourself, you know you did)
the very first line that johnny mac gave was spot on. (i hear using that terminology for john macarthur can get you banned from certain websites) i couldn’t have agreed more with him when he said that yoga practiced purely as exercise shouldn’t have any dire affects on a strong christian. but then he went downhill from there… pagitt, on the other hand, was pagitt-esque and said pretty much everything that you would have expected him to say. i think it’s interesting that they put on the two most diametrically opposed viewpoints.
bob hyatt has some good things to say concerning the subject as does marko. it seems that the gap in christianity is continuing to widen as we attempt to navigate the waters of culture… and the “sola scriptura” mantra will get louder and louder as we attempt to exegete our culture with scripture….
Thanks monts… I agree that J.M. was spot on and if you go by the definition of Yoga that they flashed up there, I’m not sure he went that downhill. Did he put the Bible above God? I didn’t hear that. Granted he’s not near as cool looking as Doug but I still can’t see reconcile Doug’s comments if you go with the definition of Yoga from Websters.
Actually I dont even really know who JM is and frankly dont care what “side he is on”. I listened to the video and clearly hear the typical (As I’m holding the Bible up) “If it ain’t in here it cant be true” That is more damaging than anything to me. In essence anyone who does this says, if it aint my interpretation of what I read in these words of men inspired by God, then it can’t be true. Here is something to chew on….a southern baptist preacher said recently, we all believe the Bible to be God inspired from beginning to end correct? Why did Jesus always use the Torah and current scriptures of his time to more or less tell people how they misinterpreted it? Or how it didnt apply to the era he walked and preached in….he often made “light” of the scriptures and hardly ever used them for the meat of anything he taught or lived. I am not saying in anyway throw it all out, or its not useful, but this idea that if it aint in here is what bothers me. JM is clearly of that thought in this video. “All you need is to be saved” BS I say. Again what does it mean to be “saved” and at what point does one become fully “saved”? If you look at the Bible people are “saved” for many many reasons and circumstances.
These are the same people who say dont drink, dont smoke, because our bodies are temples right? Well why note exercise, why not meditate on God through things like Yoga. It doesnt have to be “Satanic” in nature. Again, the whole thought that “Christian” is an adjective and not a noun. Everything is spiritual.

wow!
Happy Birthday Aaron. Do you know my little cousin Jessica Durso? I think she is in the youth group at ccc.
Hey John, why don’t you just go ahead and put the Bible above God eh? Nut job!
