dear mr. president
pink sings her song ‘dear mr. president’ live at wembley stadium…
(ht: smulo)
what are your thoughts on this? is it the height of hypocrisy—especially the line about ‘hard work’ coming from a celebrity? does it go too far or does it fall too short?
i was immediately reminded of the dixie chicks and their entire ordeal for saying they were ashamed that the president was from their home state of texas… is this video worse than that?
the comment section is yours…

Hmmmm…
I’m not sure that I am going to form my politics based on the opinions of a woman named after a color.
I must say, however, that it takes some serious stones to go overseas and ridicule your president to an overwhelmingly friendly crowd.
It was also interesting to learn that not is Pink the exemplar of hard work (which I think we all knew but were just waiting for it to be articulated so clearly) but also Bush has caused world poverty and apparently would hate his daughter if she were gay. I also found it surprising that Pink would mock W’s whiskey and cocaine years. If anything, I would think that this would endear him to her.
Pink and W aside – I am so much looking forward to seeing what happens when/if Hillary becomes Banchi in Chief. The book “Bias” chronicles how when Bill became president he cured AIDS and fixed homelessness. At least that’s what seemed to happen in the media. All of a sudden homlessness and AIDS stopped being front page stories – almost over night. I am interested to see if climate change, poverty, and even the war continue to be front page news when there is a change in power. One thing I will guarantee with near certainty, you won’t have pompous hypocrits like Pink singing Dear Mrs. President songs in England.
BTW – she sang this song with the Indigo Girls who once sang a song with these words repeated ad nausium…”Don’t eat the animals. The animals are free.” Yes, I’m a huge fan.

Go Ron Paul!
I was watching this video today and the same line jumped out at me. I even commented about it to Amy. Two reactions: 1. What is she doing about these injustices? 2. Why do we expect the government to fix these things? I wish she would sing it to the church – with the appropriate expectation that we change these injustices. My thoughts.
For me that’s the great tension. I see what the church could be and should be doing but not seeing it happen everywhere. so then I turn to the government in hopes that it would step up and make change happen… But of course its not happening there either. I believe change can happen and I would love to see the entire church step up to tackle this but the pessimist in me can’t see a united church in the US willing to settle their differences for the good of the Kingdom.
I do like the unity that has been coming around lately and the strong ecumenical spirit that is emerging but I’m just not sure I’ll see it completely realized in my lifetime.
I like your observations rags.
Being one of the greatest presidents to ever run the US, it’s too bad idiots like pink and the rest of the damn democrats in america cant see past their own personal goals and see the big picture. What a complete moron she is.
