something strange happened the other day, something rather unexpected… we had an eavesdropper make himself known. tracy and i were having breakfast with some friends at the local cracker barrel in mt. vernon talking about life and ministry with some friends and even conversing about the emerging church, truth, postmodernity, etc, etc when a guy approached us and placed in front of me the corner of a piece of paper with a web address on it. as he sat it down he said, “this will answer all of your questions, and everything will become clear.”
of course i was a little taken aback that someone was eavesdropping on our conversation, but at the same time he certainly peaked my attention. our friends were a little nervous to learn that someone had been eavesdropping considering they’re in ministry in southern illinois and the emerging church, truth and postmodernity aren’t exactly safe words to throw around in public. we had a good laugh that an older gentleman was listening in and when we arrived back at tracy’s parents i immediately got on the web and looked up this address: http://www.bahaullah.org.
i don’t think our friends have anything to worry about!
i’ve never been “proselytized” by another religion before, and never would i expect it to happen in the heart of the bible-belt, but this soft-sell was certainly an interesting approach. i’m not sure that something like this would really work for christianity—especially considering the rude nature of the eavesdrop, but it certainly is different and might have some potential… operators are standing by.

Hey Aaron, found your blog via dave’s. Very cool that you are looking at San Francisco. Good to catch up with you a bit at the practicum.
Eavesdropping evangelism? I hope that never catches on.
adam, i completely agree… unfortunately you can’t read the sarcasm into the last line of the post.
