season predictions 2008

This time last year I picked the Red Sox to win the World Series… this year I’m not nearly as confident in choosing the champion for the 2008 season. I am, however, extremely excited that baseball season is finally here! I’ve loved watching a few games here and there throughout the week, catching bits and pieces of Cubs games as they appear on tv (I have yet to have the time to sit through an entire game), and of course—hope springs eternal. So, here are my season predictions for 2008.

P.S. *This season marks the 35 anniversary of the demise of baseball in its purest form.

American League
AL EAST: Boston Red Sox
AL CENTRAL: Detroit Tigers
AL WEST: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
WILD CARD: Cleveland Indians

AL CY YOUNG: C.C. Sabathia
AL MVP: David Ortiz (I really want him to win one for a change.)

National League
NL EAST: Philadelphia Phillies
NL CENTRAL: Chicago Cubs
NL WEST: Los Angeles Dodgers
WILD CARD: Milwaukee Brewers

NL CY YOUNG: Dan Haren
NL MVP: Chase Utley

World Series
The National League is extremely competitive this year, and it was extremely difficult to pick the division winners as well as the choosing the Brewers to come out on top in the Wild Card race, however that’s as far as I think they’ll get this year. Of all the teams, I think the Cubs will come out on top in the playoffs and make their way to the World Series. The American League, however, isn’t nearly as balanced as the NL, but I think the Cleveland Indians are the team to beat and even though they won’t win their division they’re built for the post-season. So, I’m picking the Cubs to match up against the Indians. It’s great theater and a dream match-up to see the two perennial losers face off against each other to see who can end their championship drought.

In this case, I’ll take the Cubs over the Indians and an end to 100 years of futility.

What do you think? (Let the berating begin.)

    Man…..you ARE drunk! :)

  • monts says:

lemme guess… you’ve got the sox?

  • Jason Ellis says:

He’s not drunk, he’s a cubs fan. Purest form, what a joke. If this were the case there would be no relievers, no set up man, no guy to come in an make one pitch to get a save, no steroids, no performance anything. Times change, and the game changes. The DH is pure baseball just as set up men and closers are.

As far as predictions here are mine, I too chose the red sox last year.

    American League
    AL EAST: NY Yankees
    AL CENTRAL: Cleveland Indians
AL WEST: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
    WILD CARD: Boston Red Sox

Why no Detroit, simple, too much money too much pressure, not enough pitching in THE Best Division in baseball.

    National League
    NL EAST: NY Mets
    NL CENTRAL: Brewers
    NL WEST: Los Angeles Dodgers
    WILD CARD: Phillies

World series will be Yanks v Dodgers. I’ll take the yanks to win for girardi and a slap in torre’s face.

As far as your cubbie kool aid, I see a battle with Pittsburgh for 4th place for them. After Zambrano they have no pitching (whats ted lilly’s ERA after today???), Wood will get hurt, Marmol is the most overhyped pitcer since Angel Guzman, and Howry played with Jack McDowell (how old is that freakin guy). Soriano is a club cancer, has to hit lead off or he cant hit, he cant hit top tier pitching (bruce levine broke down these numbers to a tee), theriot will be in the minors before the end of the year, D Lee is good but streaky, Ramirez may have the most talent but cant play D and has to be the laziest guy ever, fukudome is legit as a contact and on base guy, then who is on the rest of their team??? Their catcher is God awful.

Sox will win more games in a 1000x harder division, lets bet lunch on that k?

set up men, closers and relievers are not new positions… they’re pitchers that have been utilized differently. the DH is a new position designed to take the bat out of a pitchers hand. the DH doesn’t play baseball, they play in a batting cage.

i’ll be lunch that the sox won’t win more games than the cubs! free lunch baby!
