analyzing humor.

Can someone please explain to me why this commercial is so funny?

Everytime this commercial makes its way onto the television I find myself beginning with a light chuckle that ultimately ends in out loud laughter and I don’t know why… I mean, look at it… it’s just funny! Does anyone know why? What’s great about this is that I know it’s not just me that laughs uncontrollably. I’ve had conversations with friends who also react strongly to this commercial… any thoughts?

Whoever is their marketing director and did the research for this commercial is a genius!

It’s a great commercial, but I would actually call it comedy- eform. Even though it doesn’t resemble Three Stooges humor, I’d argue it’s the same premise. Pure physical comedy. Easier to write, too. I think we’ll see a reversion to more stuff like this.

Easier to write? Sure… because it’s pure nonsense!

Something I’m finding interesting is that women don’t seem to like it… Tracy laughs while the commercial is on, but she’s laughing at me. Perhaps that’s the greater joke… women laughing at men laughing at nonsense.

    I agree, Eric.

The type of tv shows and movies that are most popular now are the ones that center around the absurd. The Office is centered aroud Michael and Dwight- two exaggerated characters of stupidity and just overall oddness. They are oblivoius to how the real world works.

I think the days of a show like Seinfeld being popular are waning. Granted, Kramer’s character would fit well on a show like the Office. But overall, the humor was found in the irony of the storylines coming together and the clever dialogue. I just don’t think that the majority of today’s audience would have the patience or attention span to appreciate it.

are you saying we’re getting dumber? or that our attention… oooh look, something shiny!

honestly, i wonder how greatly the use of drugs influenced the making of/writing of this commercial…

This reminds me of those crazy “Powerthirst” commercials on youtube.

They are worth a watch or two.
